About Gun & Ammo Matcher
Our Mission
Gun & Ammo Matcher is the world's largest firearm and ammunition compatibility database. We built this platform to solve a fundamental problem: figuring out which ammunition works with which firearm should be instant, reliable, and comprehensive — not scattered across dozens of forums and manufacturer PDFs.
Our database spans 13391 firearms from 556+ manufacturers, covering 142 calibers across pistols, rifles, shotguns, revolvers, SMGs, and machine guns. Every entry includes detailed specifications: barrel length, action type, weight, magazine capacity, frame material, and more.
Our Data & Methodology
We aggregate firearm and caliber specifications from multiple authoritative sources:
- Manufacturer specifications — direct from official websites and catalogs (Glock, SIG Sauer, Smith & Wesson, Beretta, Ruger, Colt, etc.)
- SAAMI (Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute) — industry-standard pressure and dimensional specs for ammunition
- CIP (Commission Internationale Permanente) — European proof standards for firearms and ammunition
- Public domain databases — military designations, historical firearm catalogs, and ballistic reference data
Each firearm entry is cross-referenced against its manufacturer's published specifications. Caliber-frearm compatibility is verified through manufacturer documentation, SAAMI/CIP standards, and community validation.
Editorial Process
Our content — including firearm comparisons, buying guides, and manufacturer histories — undergoes a multi-step editorial process:
- Research: We consult manufacturer specs, ballistic data, expert reviews, and primary sources.
- Writing: Each guide is written with technical accuracy and balanced evaluation.
- Fact-checking: All specifications, dates, and claims are verified against primary sources.
- Community review: Our database includes a "Missing Calibers" system where the firearms community can report gaps — every report is investigated and verified before updating.
- Updates: Content is periodically reviewed and updated as new firearms are released and specifications change.
Our Team
Gun & Ammo Matcher is built and maintained by a team of firearms enthusiasts, engineers, and data specialists. We combine decades of shooting experience with software engineering expertise to create the most accurate and accessible firearm database on the web.
The platform was founded in 2025 to fill a gap in the firearms information ecosystem: a single, reliable, structured source of truth for firearm-caliber compatibility.
